Pre-fabricated Homes
March 1, 2010
Imagine having your dream home assembled like a ginger bread house where the walls, roof and floors were already made and all you needed to do was glue it all together… this is the idea behind pre-fabricated construction.
The fact is that the majority of your home can be built off the building site in a controlled environment and then brought to the site and erected within hours (size and complexity dependent). Ultimately time and money is saved, site disruption is kept to a minimum, and weather is not a major cause of concern. Even the foundations can be pre-fabricated and installed like Lego within hours by companies like Apex Foundations. Pre-fabrication was once developed for building in remote locations or difficult terrain but is now moving into the mainstream residential construction realm, bringing all the benefits with it. From minimal, to modular to custom designed structures, pre-fab construction is a green choice.

Drawing from examples from companies like Form & Forest, specializing in pre-fab cabin design, to Addis Containers, who are able to create functional homes from shipping containers, Architrix is working with local pre-fab companies to provide alternatives for the way we build our homes. Starting from the preliminary design stages our plans are developed to suit standard material sizes and construction techniques, with special attention placed on creating unique forms that can be altered to suit our clients style preference.
Architrix continues to explore this construction method for our projects providing a cost savings and environmental consideration with our product, with laneway homes being the perfect grounds for implementation.
