Lee Residence

East Vancouver, BC

Nestled in a part of Vancouver where the up’s and down’s of mundane gable and hip roofs can put one to sleep faster than an Ambien is a little 33’x108′ lot whose owner envisions a simple contemporary structure in which he and his young family can call home.

A few site visits through the neighbourhood quickly prompted us to harvest a design reflecting the neighbouring homes in a way that fit within the block without looking like a spaceship landed mid-block.

We instead broke up the monotony of repeating rooflines by introducing offsetting roof pitches. We produced varying depths of building form under the two roof forms while maximizing the square footage. Natural light penetration into the home was a priority and we will achieve this through the use of large localized window sets, strategically placed to optimize light and privacy.

The result, a unique contemporary home with an efficient space plan, maximizing a smaller footprint, for this young family to enjoy for many years to come.
